정전협정 체결 65주년이 되는 27일, 민중당의 초청으로 한국을 방문 중인 인권운동가 제시 잭슨 목사와 민중당 김종훈 의원(민중당 상임대표)은 오후 2시 40분 국회 정론관에서 기자회견을 열고 ‘종전선언•평화협정 체결 촉구’ 공동성명을 발표했다.
잭슨 목사와 김종훈 의원은 “전쟁을 반대하고 평화를 사랑하는 인류 모두가 남‧북‧미 정상의 역사적 선택을 지지”하고 있다며 “이제 더 이상 전쟁체제를 지속할 이유도, 종전선언을 늦출 이유도 없다”고 주장했다.
잭슨 목사와 김종훈 의원은 “물론, 평화를 바라지 않는 사람들이 있다”며 “전쟁으로 돈을 벌어온 사람들, 적대와 갈등에 기대어 정치를 해온 사람들에게 종전선언은 이윤의 하락이요, 정치적 패배가 될 것”이라고 지적했다.
잭슨 목사와 김종훈 의원은 문재인 대통령과 김정은 국무위원장, 트럼프 대통령에게 “‘종전선언’으로 여러분의 선택이 빈말이 아닌 함께 걷는 평화의 길임을 보여” 줄 것과 “한반도 평화협정을 위한 협상을 시작”할 것을 요청했다.
나아가 잭슨 목사와 김종훈 의원은 “핵무기 위협으로부터 자유로운 한반도와 관계정상화를 위해 제재를 해제하고 사람들이 자유롭게 여행할 수 있도록 하는 공동의 행보를 해야”한다고 강조했다.
잭슨 목사와 김종훈 의원은 세계 시민을 향해 한반도 평화실현을 위한 모든 노력을 지지해 줄 것을 호소했다.

오늘은 정전협정 체결 65주년이 되는 날입니다.
Today marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the Korean War armistice.
문재인 대통령과 김정은 국무위원장은 4월 27일 판문점에서 연내에 종전선언을 할 것을 세계 앞에 약속했습니다. 그리고, 6월 12일 극단적인 정치적, 군사적 대결로 치닫던 북한과 미국이 싱가포르에서 평화를 위한 “대화”의 발걸음을 내딛었습니다.
On April 27 at Panmunjom, President Moon Jae-in and Chairman Kim Jong-un promised before the world to declare an end to the Korean War before the end of this year. After a period of intense political and military tension, the United States and North Korea met in Singapore on June 12 and took a step toward dialogue for peace.
전쟁이냐 평화냐, 민족분열이냐 통일이냐 하는 운명적 기로에서 고통받아온 남과 북의 주민들 그리고 전쟁을 반대하고 평화를 사랑하는 인류 모두가 남‧북‧미 정상의 역사적 선택을 지지하고 있습니다.
The people of North and South Korea—who stand at a fateful crossroad between war and peace, and between national division and unification—are joined by all around the world who oppose war and love peace in their support of the historic summit declarations of the leaders of North and South Korea and the United States.
이제 더 이상 전쟁체제를 지속할 이유도, 종전선언을 늦출 이유도 없습니다.
There is no longer any reason to continue the war system on the Korean Peninsula or delay ending the Korean War.
물론, 평화를 바라지 않는 사람들이 있습니다. 전쟁으로 돈을 벌어온 사람들, 적대와 갈등에 기대어 정치를 해온 사람들에게 종전선언은 이윤의 하락이요, 정치적 패배가 될 것입니다. 그러나, 그것은 남북한 주민들과 세계 인류에게는 좋은 일입니다.
Of course, there are those who don’t want peace. For those who profit from war, hostility and confrontation, a declaration to end the Korean War will mean a depreciation in their profits and political defeat. But ending the war is a positive step for the people of North and South Korea and the world.

Show the world that your summit declarations are not mere empty words but a path toward genuine peace. Begin talks for a peace treaty on the Korean Peninsula.
평화로 가는 길에서, 무기를 내려 놓고 상대방에 대한 적대적인 정책을 제거하십시오. 한반도 평화를 위해 남북, 미국의 주민들이 서로 자유롭게 만날 수 있게 하는 것보다 좋은 것은 없습니다. 모든 당사자는 핵무기 위협으로부터 자유로운 한반도와 관계정상화를 위해 제재를 해제하고 사람들이 자유롭게 여행할 수 있도록 하는 공동의 행보를 해야만 합니다.
On the path toward peace, lay down your weapons and eliminate your hostile policies against each other. There is nothing more favorable for peace on the Korean Peninsula than enabling the people of North and South Korea and the United States to freely meet with each other. All parties must take mutual steps to create a Korean Peninsula free from the threat of nuclear weapons and normalize relations, which includes lifting the sanctions and allowing people to freely travel.
